Chain Magnate Deluxe Edition (not the Special Edition with the minis) produced by Lucky Duck. It supports premium sleeves (photos show Gamegenic Prime sleeves), has no lid lift, and was designed to aid setup and teardown.

The video below has additional details, but my main goals for this insert were:

Better support for sleeved cards. There is now plenty of room to hold all cards in premium sleeves, and there is even quite a bit of extra card storage to give you flexibility in how you store them.

There are two adjustable trays that hold the cards vertically. The larger one is sized to hold the base game cards with premium sleeves. The slightly smaller one can hold the expansion, CEO, and reserve cards. Print as many adjustable dividers as you'd like. I recommend printing 4.

The employee display has card storage inside of it. It is large enough to hold the base game cards in premium sleeves, but if there’s a set of expansions you prefer to play with, you could store your preferred setup directly in the employee display. This space is in addition to the other card storage, so there is a lot of flexibility in how you can choose to store your cards throughout the insert.

An improved employee display. This tray is similar to the one that came with the game but it has rails along the sides to hold the cardboard employee display board in place during play. The original tray had no way to prevent the board from lifting when removing cards from the slots. This one also has fine ridges along the bottom to prevent the cards from tilting forward or backward within the slots.

Improved food trays. The stock insert had a single tray for the base game 1-food tokens, and a single tray for the 5-food tokens and all the expansion food tokens. My insert groups all the base game 1- and 5-food tokens together and splits them across two trays so you can place one at each end of the table. I also split out the expansion food tokens into individual trays so you can place on the table only the expansion food corresponding to the modules you are using. There are two of each expansion food tray so you can also place those at each end of the table.

Improved expansion setup. In addition to providing separate expansion food trays, there is now an expansion setup tray that separates the components by module. It also supports premium sleeves on the expansion module cards. I prefer to place those cards on the table instead of inserting them into the add-on module milestone board. You can then use the milestone marker on top of the card. Or you can leave your cards unsleeved and use the add-on module milestone board. The insert accommodates both options.

Improved player component setup. Individual trays hold the player components to make setup easier. They each hold the player’s restaurants, milestone markers, scoring marker, drive-through tokens, and the tokens for the Hard Choices module. I decided to store the Hard Choices tokens with the other player components because (1) Hard Choices appears to be one of the most commonly used modules, and (2) the tokens go on the milestone board, just like the other milestone markers that are also stored in these trays.

Consolidated marketing tray. This tray makes it easy to find the desired marketing tiles, as they are ordered numerically and they have their corresponding wooden token stored directly beneath the tiles. If there is no finger hole to remove a tile, push on the left side of the tile and it will lift so you can remove it. For the wooden radio tokens 1, 2, and 3, push toward the bottom of the token and the top will rise up so you can easily remove it. For airplane token 4, push on its left side and the right side will raise so you can remove it. I included a slot where you can store the cardboard number tokens, but they are not necessary to use because the game separately comes with wooden tokens to track the marketing campaigns.

Improved layering in the box.

Many of the expansion components are in the bottom of the box, so there is no need to dig deep if you are just playing the base game or with a limited subset of the expansion modules (e.g., Hard Choices).

Map tiles, menus, and the expansion milestone boards are oriented vertically, making it easy to remove them from the box without needing to remove the trays that are holding them.

A general goal overall was to minimize the total number of trays that must be removed from the box to begin playing the game, despite adding some trays to provide split storage for the food tokens.

Paper money is stored in the bottom of the box, so if you don’t plan to use it (like me), you can leave it there and it won’t get in the way while you are setting up the game. I split the money trays, so each denomination has its own slot.

A separate tray for the gardens and refrigerators. This tray also has a space for placing the reserve cards face down during the game until the bank breaks. I did not provide a finger hole for these cards to try to make it clear that these should not be looked at until the appropriate trigger during the game. When it is time to reveal them, you push down on their left sides and they will lift up so you can remove them.

Printing instructions: To achieve the insert as shown, print the number indicated in the filenames (e.g., x2 means to print two of the item) and print one of everything else. Several of the trays are large (generally 318 mm wide), so I provided single-piece versions for those with larger printers and split versions for those with smaller printers (like my MK4S). Print all the files in the "Files for All Printers" folder, and choose to print all the files in either the "Files Split for Smaller-Bed Printers" folder or the "Files for Large-Bed Printers" folder. If choosing the split versions, there are alignment features that help make it easy to glue the pieces together with super glue. I prefer the gel version of CA glue because it does not run and can better fill the gaps between the pieces. For the expansion setup tray, first glue the left and right halves together. Then glue the “Ketchup” label into the gap in the tray where it fits. This label provides additional gluing surface to help hold the two halves together.

You can store the box vertically, but I wouldn’t recommend it with a box of this size. Also, the top layer of marketing tiles might shift out of their slots, depending on how tightly your lid fits over the trays.

Due to the box size and the weight of the components, this insert has thick walls and uses about 2.4 kg of filament.

The images show how to layer everything in the box. I have provided the original SCAD files in case anyone would like to make improvements for non-commercial purposes.

For a more detailed overview of the insert, you can watch the video below.

<div report on BGG that the connectors on the split trays did not smoothly fit together for one user. I posted versions of the trays with male connectors that provide additional clearance to help avoid this issue if you encounter it. For example, instead of a connector being 5.0 mm wide, I made these 4.8 mm wide (or a comparable reduction, depending on the size of the connector). If you think connector size may be an issue for your printer, I suggest first printing the original version of the Garden, Refrigerator, and Reserve Card tray. This is the smallest tray with connectors, and it should give you a good indication of whether the original files will work well for you. If the connectors are too tight, please instead use the files in the folder labeled as having additional clearance for the connectors. I still recommend the original files if your printer is able to create them without sizing issues, as they provide the least amount of play between the trays when gluing them together.

KreativLayers
Default
